Transitional Year Residency Program
Southeast Health has been serving our community since 1957. This non-for-profit community health system is devoted to improving the health and quality of life of the residents of southeast Alabama, southwest Georgia and the Florida Panhandle.
Southeast Health is a vigorous, developing organization with a 420-bed hospital, a medical school and clinics throughout the wiregrass. With the vision of Southeast Health to be known as the healthcare provider of choice, and that means consistently providing a high quality patient care experience for those we serve.
At Southeast Heath the Transitional Year Residency program was created to give an extensive clinical experience. The one year program provides support and a clinical foundation before transferring to further residencies.
We at Southeast Health take pride to our resident physicians’ professional growth. Our skilled and experienced physicians help guide and train our resident physicians to become top medical professionals.
Mission Statement
The mission of the Southeast Health Transitional Year Residency Program is to provide residents with a well-balanced educational program covering multiple clinical disciplines designed to facilitate the preparation for a specific specialty. For those who have not yet made a decision to pursue a specialty, we will provide opportunity and support for exploring careers in primary care. It is the vision of the Southeast Health Transitional Year residency faculty to train residents who progressively improve the individual and societal practice of medicine by incorporating evidence based medicine.
Program Aims
The Southeast Health Transitional Year Residency Program provides a competency-based curriculum to provide the resident a strong foundation of medical knowledge that they take with them to their subsequent training program, or assist the individual in choosing a primary care specialty if necessary. Through the six core competencies promulgated by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME), the program educates the resident using progressive levels of supervised responsibility in caring for their patients. The program will educate, evaluate, and provide the resident feedback on a semiannual basis and the progress of the resident will be monitored using the milestones of each sub-competency.
