Dr. Johnson is an experienced cardiothoracic surgeon with the Southeast Health Cardiovascular Institute. He has been a dedicated member of the medical staff at Southeast Health Medical Center since 1996. He plays an integral role in the Structural Heart Program at the hospital.

A native of Montgomery, Dr. Johnson received his medical degree from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. He completed a residency in general surgery at the University of Kentucky Medical Center, where he also served as a research fellow and was chief resident in general surgery. He then completed a second residency in cardiothoracic surgery at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City, where he also served as a research fellow in cardiothoracic surgery.

Dr. Johnson is board certified in surgery and cardiothoracic surgery. As a cardiothoracic surgeon, he performs a wide range of procedures, including coronary artery bypass grafting, carotid endarterectomy, heart valve repairs and replacements, aortic surgeries, pneumonectomies, and lobectomies. He is specially trained in transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) and collaborates closely with interventional cardiologists at the Medical Center to perform these procedures through a multi-disciplinary team approach.
