Steven F. Johnson, MD, is a cardiothoracic surgeon with the Southeast Health Cardiovascular Institute. He is a member of the medical staff at Southeast Health Medical Center and is in integral part of the Structural Heart Program at the hospital.
Dr. Johnson is a Montgomery native who received his medical degree from the University of Alabama at Birmingham in Brimingham, AL. He completed a residency in general surgery at the University of Kentucky Medical Center, where he also served as a research fellow and was chief resident in general surgery. He completed a second residency in cardiothoracic surgery at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City. He was also a research fellow in cardiothoracic surgery at the University of Iowa.
He is board certified in surgery and cardiothoracic surgery. As a cardiothoracic surgeon, Dr. Johnson performs coronary artery bypass grafting, carotid endarterectomy, heart valve repairs and replacements, aortic surgeries, pneumonectomies, lobectomies and other procedures. He is specially trained in transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) and works closely with interventional cardiologists at Southeast Health to perform these procedures through a multi-disciplinary team approach.
