Dr. Mayes is a board-certified, fellowship-trained interventional cardiologist with the Southeast Health Cardiovascular Institute. He joined the medical staff at Southeast Health Medical Center in 2024 after nearly a decade at Ascension Sacred Heart Medical Group in Miramar Beach, Florida. During his tenure there, he served as the director of the cardiovascular service line at Sacred Heart Hospital on Emerald Coast and as the cardiovascular medical director for the Midwest market, covering Port St. Joe to Pensacola, Florida.
Dr. Mayes received his Bachelor of Arts in Chemistry with honors from Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee. He earned his medical degree from Vanderbilt University Medical School, where he was a Justin Potter Scholar. He completed his residency and served as chief resident in internal medicine at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, Texas, followed by a fellowship in general and interventional cardiology at Duke University Medical Center in Durham, North Carolina.
In addition to his medical achievements, Dr. Mayes was a member of the Vanderbilt University Commodores men’s varsity basketball team from 1987 to 1991. He played in three NCAA tournament teams and served as team captain during his senior year.
